Many individuals are characterized as larger-than-life, yet only a few of them are deserving of the title. How many of us live to be 100 years old? How many will be included in our spacefaring descendants’ digital textbooks? TIME’s ‘Person Of The Year’ is an annual honor given to individuals or organizations that have had a significant impact in the last year or century.
‘Person of the Year’ is a measure of impact, and few people have had more influence on our life on Earth and possibly are more deserving of it than Elon Musk. Musk became the wealthiest person in 2021 and the wealthiest indicator of a massive revolution in our civilization.
Even among the exceptional, Musk is in a league of his own. He regards his purpose to be resolving the world’s most complex challenges while destabilizing various businesses over two decades. This includes creating combustion-engine automobiles and spaceflight, the core of American inventions.
His other notable achievements include infrastructure construction, artificial intelligence, neurotechnology, payment systems, and growing money across his infatuations with crypto assets. He has a long list of other embodiments of our coming generations. He has many nicknames – clown, genius, edgelord, visionary, industrialist, showman, and cad.
A few years ago, Musk was portrayed as a crazed con man on the edge of bankruptcy. He is now the blue-skinned man-god who invents electric cars and wants to move to Mars. This timid South African bends governments and industries to his will despite his Asperger’s, traumatic upbringing, and personal tragedy.
The world’s wealthiest man has recently sold off his fortunes. He launches satellites into orbit and harnesses the sun. He rides the electric car he invented and rarely requires a driver. The stock market rises or falls with a flick of his finger. His every word is watched by a legion of adoring fans. He dreams of living on Mars.
As he drives down Texas Highway 4 between the Gulf of Mexico and the Rio Grande, Musk refuses to be recognized as the world’s richest man. Musk is prepared to launch the world’s largest rocket from one of the country’s southernmost points. Glistening spacecraft soar many levels above the desolate landscape.
His firm is buying up local real estate and urging staff to relocate. Musk stated earlier this year on Twitter that he was “creating the city of Starbase, Texas.” While his move to Mars is overachieving to most of us.
Musk has spent his life opposing the critics, and now he appears to be in a position to put them in their place successfully. He has a reason, “should humans experience failure on Earth, Musk sees ‘a futuristic Noah’s ark’ in space as a solution.” His SpaceX is the world’s leading commercial provider of rockets and crews. ‘Elon Unbound’ was the theme for the year 2021.
SpaceX was awarded NASA’s exclusive agreement to land American astronauts on the moon for the first time since 1972 April. Musk estimates a three-year schedule for this, with two more years to colonize mars. Making spacefaring rockets as reusable as airplanes is the key.
But has he always been this lucky to have everything he owns in his life without failures? Rather the opposite. When you consider how impossible Musk’s recent spaceflight achievement has been, it’s simpler to comprehend how he can believe something so absurd.
SpaceX almost financially bankrupted Musk before it became America’s passport to the solar system. The Falcon, the company’s first rocket, failed three times before reaching space in 2008.
There is a lot of reflecting on and attempting to look forward when determining who should be Person of the Year each December. When e-commerce was only getting started in 1999, Bezos was the obvious pick. Zuckerberg was chosen in 2010, long before it was evident what impact Facebook would have on society and democracy.
We don’t yet know how much Tesla, SpaceX, and the other projects. Musk is working on what will alter our lives. He has plenty of time, at 50, to write his and our futures. Whether we like it or not, we now live in Musk’s universe.
