The legal drama, a spin-off, and continuation of The Good Wife, debuted in 2017. It centered on Diane as she began working for a new law firm. Fans have been demanding a cameo from Alicia Florrick, who plays Margulies, since the show’s premiere. It has never happened, though.
Margulies told Deadline in 2019 that although she “really wanted to do it,” “the deal didn’t happen.” Margulies eventually said she didn’t return because former streamer CBS All Access “refused to pay” her the per-episode wage she earned when working on The Good Wife. “The showrunners had found a nice way to reintroduce my character, a story that was to span three episodes. I was really excited about the idea, but CBS refused to pay my (ask).”
“I’m not a guest star; I started the whole thing with The Good Wife,” Margulies had said. “I wanted to be paid my worth and stand up for equal pay. If Jon Hamm returned for a Mad Men spin-off or Kiefer Sutherland wanted to do a 24 spin-off, they would be paid.”
