Depp-Heard Trial: Jury Sides Mostly With Depp In Defamation Case
The Night Before
On the eve of the decision, Mr. Depp received a standing ovation after playing with Mr. Beck at the Royal Albert Hall in London. “I hope that my effort to have the truth spoken has helped others, men or women, who have found themselves in my situation. Those who support them never give up,” Mr. Depp concluded.
Judge Penney Azcarate of the Fairfax County Circuit Court lowered Depp’s punitive damages to $350,000, the statutory limit in Virginia. His total damages are now $10.4 million. Punitive damages were not given to Ms. Heard.
The actress sat solemnly during the verdict reading and said she was “heartbroken” in a statement. She claimed that the jurors had disregarded evidence in the case.
