Larry Tate’s Son’s Tragic Naming & Fate
On Bewitched, when Larry and Louise Tate had a son, the actor who played Larry, David White, requested that he be named Jonathan. Off-screen, White has a kid named Jonathan, whom he raised alone when his wife died of problems during her second pregnancy.
The show’s creators thought it was a wonderful gesture and decided to name the character after Larry’s real-life kid.
But sadly, Larry’s son Jonathan was a passenger on Pan Am Flight 103, which exploded over Lockerbie, Scotland, in 1988, killing everybody on board. Two years later, David died of a heart attack, and the two have been buried together in Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
Many people believed the cast of Bewitched was cursed for years, as many cast members died at young ages. Indeed, an alarmingly high proportion of people who worked on the show died young.
