Dick York’s Real Reason For Leaving
Even though he had a legitimate cause for leaving the show, Dick York’s resignation was never explained. While filming Cordura, York tore most of the muscles on the right side of his back, and he never fully recovered.
Doctors prescribed pain medicine, but it wasn’t a long-term cure, and it wasn’t ideal for filming. He allegedly became hooked on pain medicines prescribed for his back discomfort.
When York visited the doctor’s office during a lunch break from filming during season five of Bewitched, a new doctor handed him some B-12. York had an inadequate response to the vitamin and was brought to the hospital after suffering a seizure on set.
He never returned, and the show was without Darrin until Dick Sargent stepped in for a few episodes. It was only one of the beloved show’s many setbacks.
